First Thoughts on Microsoft Designer
The concept behind Microsoft Designer is really simple. All you have to do is describe any design ideas you have, and this new application will create that for you.
The AI technology will work it’s magic and within a matter of seconds, you’ll see multiple design ideas for you to use. You can even go into one you like and make further edits to that design.
How good is Microsoft Designer?
At first sight, this application sounds like the greatest thing ever. But how good really is it? We’ve had a little play around with it, testing how knowledgeable the AI technology this application uses is.
We started off by asking Microsoft Designer to create an “Advertisement for Cyber Security Training”
We can see that it clearly detects the words in the request, providing us with text and image relating to the topic.
It gives us many different templates to look at, some better than others and even some with animations. One negative we’ve noticed however is how basic these designs are. There isn’t too much to them apart from a small piece of text and an image.
How Useful is Microsoft Designer?
It’s always nice to have a good app with some cool features, but how useful actually is Microsoft Designer? Is it possible that this app could be used daily in the correct industries?
Designer can create basic templates and graphics within seconds, which can help many save time when it comes to their work. However, by looks of it, if you were wanting a good and attention grabbing image you’ll need to spend some time making changes yourself.
On a more positive side, Microsoft Designer can help give you many ideas for visuals when it comes to making a graphic. It also appears that one of it’s main objectives is to help create advertisements, which is always a plus if you’re looking to go down that route.

In conclusion, we think that Microsoft Designer is a cool little app that anyone can use to create graphics. It’s useful in the fact that it can turn ideas into real visuals within seconds, and help generate more design ideas.
However, at the moment (September 2023) we feel what it creates is fairly basic and to the eyes of a professional in the graphic design and marketing industry, you’d want something that looks a lot more eye-catching and informative.
